Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

This is one of the most common procedures in plastic surgery, and one in which small changes make a big impact in the patient's appearance. Typically the nose may have a hump, be asymmetrical, have a prominent tip, or be too long and/or too wide. We reshape the nose to bring it into proportion with the patient's other facial features and create a more attractive appearance from all angles.

The incisions are made either inside of the nose or on the columela (the thin strip of skin under the nose and between the nostrils), leaving hidden or no visible scars. Depending on the original shape and the desired result, we might remove a hump, refine the tip, or narrow or shorten the nose. Patients generally experience swelling and as it subsides, the final shape of the nose will refine itself over a period of several months to a year.

Rhinoplasty is usually performed for cosmetic reasons, but some patients may have breathing problems that can be corrected by reshaping the nose. In some of these cases, the procedure may be covered by insurance.
